The Chairperson of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG), Mrs. Efua Gharty has appealed to individuals, organizations, institutions as well as the media to help them translate and spread the Word of God to the general public. She said it takes about 30 years to translate a Bible into a new language and costs 18 dollars to translate one verse in the Bible. Mrs. Gharty was speaking at their 50th anniversary thanksgiving service in Sunyani, under theme â€œGodâ€™s Transforming Word: Life for Allâ€. According to her, they translate the Bible accurately effective and meaningful programmes using BSG exists to make Godâ€™s world available and affordable and encourage use of the Bible to transform lives, adding, their vision is to reach every home in Ghana with the word of God in a language they understand. Mrs. Charty emphasized that translating the actual Bible into different language is not just an academic exercise, saying it is God spirit speaking to them to understand what God wants to say to his people. She noted that BSG has translated Godâ€™s word into eight major Ghanaian languages. Mrs. Charty explained that the Bible does not easily burn because of the quality materials used in manufacturing and called for support to enable them publish more quality Bibles in the country. The Chairperson explained that BSG also distributes some of its Bible for free during special events, prepare Braille Bible for the blind and also organizes other programmes such as Anti HIV/Aids seminars, Peace Keeping Bible project and Fund raisers. The Bible Society of Ghana is an affiliate member of the United Bible Societies, operating in 200 countries whose task is to achieve the widest possible, effective and meaningful distribution of the Holy Scriptures in all languages to meet the needs of people Worldwide in translations that are faithful to the scripture texts in their original languages which communicate the Biblical message.
