BRONG-AHAFOA TOURISM AWARDS NIGHT

Hoteliers in the Bono-Ahafo Region have signaled their intention to work harder to improve standards and place the region, firmly on the international conference tourism map in particular and tourism in general, with the development of word class hotels, conference venues and allied facilities. The proprieter of the only 3 star hotel in Bono-Ahafo, EusbettHotels’s Sam Benett, who stated this, used his facility as an example saying they are kick starting plans to upgrade to a 4 stars statues by the close of next year with the commissioning of a world class international conference center in Suynani next month. Mr. Benett was speaking on behalf of award winners at the 2015 Bono-Ahafo Tourism Awards Night held in Sunyani, the Bon-Ahafo Regional Capital. The Ghana Tourism Authority’s Awards scheme which is held annually at the regional and national levels is basically to recognize players in the tourism industry, which is one of Ghana’s leading foreign exchange earners. Bono-Ahafo is one of Ghana’s Tourism treasure troves boosting of a multiplicityof tourism attraction as well as allied facilities like hotel, restaurants, drinking bars and chop bars. Players in the industry in the region were consequently out in their numbers for their big day. In all, 17 awards were presented on the day as the only 3 star hotel in the region and the undoubted industry leader, the Proprietor of Eusbett Hotel, Sam Benett was on hand to receive the award for the best hotel in the 3 star category, the pick of the awards. Speaking on behalf of the award winner, he thanked the Government for all the support for the sector, especially when it comes to waivers for the importation of badly needed equipment . This he said has helped players in the region to upgrade their facilities. He stated his determination to give Bono-Ahafo and the northern and middle sectors of the country a second four star hotel after the Golden Tulip Kumasi City. Adding that this is expected to come to fruition by the close of next year. Earlier in an address, the administrative manager of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Charles Buabeng, expressed his joy over the anticipated positive effect the development fund, established in 2011 will have on the sector. He therefore urged all players in the industry who have to contribute to it to do so. He added that just like the GetFund has had a profound positive effect on the education sector, the tourism fund will also help improve the Sector. In a welcome, the Acting regional Boss of the GTA, Appeagyei congratulated the award winners and all other operators in the sector for their hard work which has engendered growth. Award winner include Sheila’s Executive Lodge as Newcomer of the year, Encom Hotel as 2 star hotel of the year and Hotel De Giorgio as 1 star hotel of the year. The BuabengFiema monkey sanctuary was adjudged the attraction of the year, while Site Guide at the facility, Isaac Sarkodie won the pride for the site guide of the year. The media was not left out as Edward AdjeiFrimpong of the Business and Financial Times, was recognized as the Tourism writer of the year. Sunyani based J-Life FM was also awarded as the Tourism oriented media for the period under review.
