Communities who make life difficult for teachers making an effort to correct undisciplined students have been advised to halt such behavior. The Berekum Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Elizabeth Oti Akenten, gave the advice during a ceremony to honor deserving teachers in the Berekum Municipality. It was organized by Bombisco Productionin collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, in recognition of the selfless work by teachers under trying conditions.  The first of its kind in the Municipality, the Ceremony, saw 52 teachers receiving awards. It covered basic schools up to tertiary institutions in both private and public sectors. Mrs. Oti Akenten stated that education without discipline is nothing and teachers are not out to harm students but are rather seeking to get students focused on their learning.  She therefore urgedparents to cooperate with teachers and help them discipline their wards instead of making things more difficult for them. “Education is the bedrock of every nation and can influence its development. Also, Professionals do not emerge from the blue, butpartly through work of the teacher”, she added. Touching on other challenges hampering education development, the Education Director pointed to dilapidated and congested classrooms and security challenges, leading to the stealing of valuable assets of institutions and sometimes intruders barging into Girls’ Dormitories.  She appealed to society to help bring an end to this and commended teachers for their hard work despite all the challenges. In an interview the PRO of the Organizers, Bombisco Production’s Lot Osei Agyman, revealed that the Awardees were selected by students in their schools. The essence of the awards was to motivate hardworking teachers to continue doing their best in developing future good citizens for society.
