GLOMEF GETS TEN MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL

A Sunyani High Court Judge, His Worship, Kwame Oheneng-Mensah, has inducted ten members of the governing council of the Global Media Foundation (GLOMeF) into office. The swearing in ceremony was held at Fiapre near Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo Region. The ten member council is the highest decision making body of the GLOMeF, with the mandate to ensure that the GLOMeF achieves its aim of creating a vibrant, dynamic and smart media in Africa to fight against corruption and seek social justice as well as ensuring Sustainable Development through the promotion of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s). GLOMeF also advised Peace, Democratic Governance, Human Rights, Youth and Women Development as well as ensuring Free Flow of Information. Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Chairman, Mr. Kobina Afena-Sam, said they are honoured for the opportunity and assured His Worship, Kwame Oheneng-Mensah and the Glomef of their commitment to duty. He said they will endeavour to discharge their responsibilities in a selfless, open, objective and accountable manner, to help GLOMeF position itself as one of the best NGOs in the country. Mr. Afena-Sam who spoke with Develop Ghana Newspaper, was optimistic that the council will continue to support the GLOMeF in its binary operation, adding that together they can actualize the set goals and objectives. In brief remarks, the CEO of GLOMeF, Raphael Godlove Ahenu Junior noted that their goal is to promote human rights, mitigate conflict and build peaceful societies in Africa. Touching on their achievement, he mentioned sensitization of 1,450 young people in Junior and Senior High School on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Brong-Ahafo Region, provision of 12 boreholes for 12 communities in the Sunyani West and Tain Districts, construction of two a unit classroom block for Fiapre Methodist Primary and Junior High School and provision of a community Centre for Asuotiano in the Dormaa East District among others.
