The Sunyani Traditional Council has expressed its deep disgust for the Brong-Ahafo Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by the Regional Chairman, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh for the recent comments they made during a Press Conference they organised recently. Chairman Asomah-Cheremeh is alleged to have stated that the Paramount Chief of Sunyani, has stooped to the lowest level in calling on the residents of the Region to overwhelmingly endorse the President Mahama for next year’s Presidential Election. Mr. Cheremeh added that it is not the duty of the Omanhene to enlighten the citizens of Sunyani on the competence of the Mahama administration. The NPP is also said to have stated that the jurisdiction of the Omanhene of Sunyani is subject to so many questions, defining and limiting his powers, while raising doubts over his role as a father. All this came up as Executives of the NPP in the Brong Ahafo Region reacted to the Sunyani Omanhene’s call on the people of the region to give President Mahama 70-80 per cent votes in the 2016 general elections. Addressing the Media at the Old Palace in Sunyani, the Krontihene of Sunyani Traditional Area, Nana Bofotia Boa-Amponsem said the comments made by the Omanhene of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri have been twisted and misconstrued. He said the Sunyani Traditional Council welcomes the constructive criticism thus far expressed by both the people of Brong-Ahafo and the nation at large. He was however unhappy about the unprovoked attacks on the Omanhene by the Brong-Ahafo Regional Executives of NPP. Nana Boa-Amponsem recalled that when the NPP flag bearer, Nana Akuffo Addo visited Nana Omanhene at the palace during his Rise and Build Tour, Nana Omanhene remarked that since the symbol of Sunyani Stool is an elephant, the council would be happy if NPP retained the Sunyani East seat. Nana Boa-Amponsem again noted that Nana Omanhene assured the NPP of his support to help it win the 2016 general elections and questioned whether in the estimation of the NPP, Nana Omanhene was doing politics at that time? Nana Boa-Amponsem said they require Chairman, Asomah-Cheremeh to answer many questions surrounding the jurisdiction and power of the Sunyanihene and define to the Council the limit of Nana’s powers he alluded to.
